This a Rocket inspired class. The Rocket I sequence is a modified version of the Ashtanga primary series. There are options offered for everyone. Beginning or curious students can experience the flow of an Ashtanga vinyasa practice in a led class that is somewhere between a led half and full primary series. Modifications make the poses accessible, and additional poses, not usually found in the primary series, help open up and strengthen the body for the deep hip openers, backbends, and jump throughs of the traditional Ashtanga practice. Experienced practitioners have the opportunity to workshop arm balances, handstands, and non-traditional binds for creative options and transitions. Everyone can expect to sweat and have a good time while working on flexibility, strength, coordination, and relaxation.
Matt just recently came out of a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga District in Washington D.C., which was rooted in both major yoga traditions, Dharma and Ashtanga, as well as in other approaches, such as trauma-sensitive and restorative yoga. Matt continues to develop his daily ashtanga practice in the mysore class at AYC. He completed his undergraduate education at UVA in philosophy and studio art, and appreciates yoga for its experiential and creative approaches to inquiry and discovery.
