No Practice on “Saturdays”, “Moon Days” or “Lady Holiday’s”
MOON DAYS: In Ashtanga Yoga it is traditional to rest from asana practice on new and full moon days. The ocean’s tides are higher and lower on these days as is our own energy. They are also considered auspicious days and best to respect and rest, doing other forms of devotional or mindful practices.
LADY HOLIDAYS: It is recommended that women take the first three days off for rest during their menstrual period. There are several reasons for this advise: The most sited is that during menstruation the body is working on eliminating (apana vayu) and that strenuous asana practice is counter productive.
SATURDAYS: It is important to take one day off to rest, replenish, spend time with family and friends and perform one’s householder duties.
