TRADITIONAL ASHTANGA VINYASA METHOD
At Ashtanga Yoga Charlottesville, we offer a traditional method of practice that is appropriate for any level of student. All of our classes accommodate students at any level from beginner to advanced.
Mysore – Mysore is open to all levels, from absolute beginners to more experienced students. The class is not a led class. All instructions are given on an individual basis with hands on guidance and attention to special needs.
Mysore classes are held everyday except Sunday where we only offer the led Primary Series Practice
Intro to Ashtanga Yoga – Learn the fundamentals of the Ashtanga yoga practice in a slow, safe and comprehensive manner. Learn Sun Salutations and the fundamental standing asanas (postures), breathing techniques, and philosophy of the Ashtanga yoga system. Some seated postures also introduced. Classes are held Sunday at 12:30pm and Fridays at the Ivy Yoga School from 5-6pm
Primary Series – A traditional led primary series class that follows the sanskrit count as Guruji taught and now his grandson, Sharath.

Ashtanga Improv – A playful, intelligent exploration of postures from other series in the Ashtanga method allowing time to “workshop” some postures.
Offered at The Ivy Yoga School on Mondays and Thursday evenings 6-7:15pm
Slow Flow Vinyasa– Vinyasa connects breath with movement . This class will move mindfully, slowly and offer creative vinyasa sequences while guiding student safely through sun salutations, standing and seated postures. Classes improve students’ strength, flexibility, balance and mindfulness and are suitable for all levels of students.
Offered at The Ivy Yoga School; Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings 9:15-10:30am
Noon Power Hour– This powerful, dynamic and high energy vinyasa class challenges, awakens, detoxifies and purifies your body. Modifications and variations are offered throughout class in order to personalize your yoga experience. Appropriate for all levels.

Community Yoga – This class offers the practice of yoga to all members of the community in an economically, accessible way ($5 per class). The style of this class can vary depending on the students’ needs, day of the week, and our teachers’ preferences. But most of the classes are based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa method. Come to AYC’s studio for a class and be pleasantly surprised. Suitable for all levels.
Offered at AYC; M-Th 7:15-8:45pm, Fridays at 5:45-7:00pm and Saturday and Sundays 4-5:15pm.
Multi-Level Yoga– Practice simple meditation and breathing techniques to help tune in, focus and calm the mind. Combine breath and movement to strengthen and stretch as you move through a full body practice. Practice finishes with a conscious rest in the peaceful studio.
Offered at The Ivy Yoga School; Tuesdays 6:00-7:15pm and Wednesdays 9:15-10:30am
Yoga Therapy– This class offers a chance to get to know yourself, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. A slow-paced, introspective class that gives time for posture exploration and an inner journey. This class makes yoga accessible to everyone, whether you have a daily practice or no experience at all.
Offered at The Ivy Yoga School Wednesday evenings from 6-7:15pm
Mantra Yoga/ Sutra Study – Chant the Yoga Sutras and explore their meaning. Learn Shanti Mantras and well as other devotional chants.
Offered at AYC each Sunday from 8:30-9:15am (check online schedule)
Meditation –We are blessed to have Venerable Geshe Gephal teach us the subtle aspects of meditation. Class begins with steadying the mind, then intentions stated followed by either analytical or single pointed meditation.
Offered at AYC each Sunday 11:15-12:15pm
Private Yoga Instruction – All of our teachers are available for private instruction or small group classes at the studio during the hours classes are not being offered.
Weekend Workshops and Retreats – We reserve the weekends to offer special workshops and retreats, so check in regularly to see our diverse offerings.
